Summit Club Adventures Beach Cleanup

Beach Cleanup at Pukerua Bay: come and help clean up our amazing stretch of coastline!

10 am – 2 pm, Saturday  24 November 2018 (ical)

This event is organised by Kathmandu and Sustainable Coastlines, and they would like you to sign up as a volunteer here if you wish to participate.

What to bring:

  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. This is critical for health & safety: those not wearing closed-toe shoes will not be able to participate.
  • Warm and waterproof clothes. At least one warm top layer and a rain jacket.
  • Sun hat and sunscreen.
  • Reusable water bottle (filled up and ready to go)
  • Your old or unused mobile phone to recycle. As a charity partner of the RE:MOBILE phone recycling scheme, donating your old mobile helps us raise critical funds for freshwater restoration.
  • A camera (optional). We would love to see your event photos! If you use Instagram, use the tags #loveyourwater, @kathmandugear and @sustainablecoastlines to let the world know.

Regional Water Quality presentation: Te Awarua-o-Porirua Whaitua committee

Te Awarua-o-Porirua Whaitua committee members will present what they have been doing to enable sound decisions around improving water quality in our streams and harbour.

The Ministry for the Environment’s National Policy Statement for freshwater management requires regional councils to set limits and meet national bottom lines for water quality and quantity. The Greater Wellington Regional Council selected Whaitua Committees as the advisory bodies, and community-led collaboration as the method for developing these policies.

Friends of Mana Island 2018 AGM

You are warmly invited to attend the Friends of Mana AGM featuring a talk by seabird expert Graeme Taylor from the Department of Conservation about our planned translocation of white-faced storm petrels. There are plenty of challenges moving chicks from the Chathams to Mana Island.

You will also hear updates about FOMI’s work during the past year. And the evening marks the beginning of FOMI’s 20th anniversary this year – “Celebrating Our Volunteers”. Find out first-hand what’s happening, including a special preview of a 3-minute video produced for the anniversary.

As part of the election of officers, FOMI will be seeking to elect a new president.
