Six or more Storey Buildings for Pukerua Bay?

This Saturday 24 April at 2pm the Pukerua Bay Residentsโ€™ Association will be holding a meeting for residents at the Pukerua Bay RSA clubrooms at 5 Wairaka Road to discuss a submission in response to the Kฤinga Ora proposal for High Density Zones in Porirua City, including Pukerua Bay.

Louise White, Planner in the Environment & City Planning Team, and Emily Bayliss, an independent โ€˜Friend of the Submitterโ€™, will both attend to assist residents better understand Kฤinga Oraโ€™s submission and the further submission process. Cr Josh Trlin will also be coming to the meeting.

Kฤinga Ora has made a request for a high-density residential zone, enabling buildings of six storeysย or more. For more context to Kฤinga Ora’s request you can read and download the full submission here:

Long Term Plan consultation 2021

The Porirua City Council Long Term Plan (LTP) Consultation is underway for 2021. The LTP sets the direction, priorities and budgets for the city for the next 30 years, and details the planned services, activities and projects for Porirua, and how Council will pay for them. Community input is essential to make sure the council have the right focus. Public consultation is open from 26 March 2021 to 27 April 2021.

There is a tsunami warning in effect for most of New Zealand following an 8.1 earthquake in the Kermadec Islands region. Please monitor the official Civil Defence sources for more information:

As of 10:30 am today (5 March 2021) People in all New Zealand coastal areas should:

  1. Listen to the radio and/or TV for updates, or check www.civildefence.govt.nz
  2. Listen to local Civil Defence authorities and follow any instructions regarding evacuation of your area
  3. Stay out of the water (sea, rivers and estuaries, this includes boats)
  4. Stay off beaches and shore areas
  5. Do not go sightseeing
  6. Share this information with family, neighbours and friends

Evacuation advice overrides the current COVID-19 Alert Level requirements. Listen to local Civil Defence authorities and follow any instructions regarding evacuation of your area. If you are told to evacuate do not stay at home. Stay 2 metres away from others if you can and if it is safe to do so.

Surfer’s Seat 2nd Memorial Reunion

Date: Saturday, 20 February 2021 (ical)

A short remembrance at 11.30am down at the Surferโ€™s Seat near the beach car park (map), followed by refreshments and food at the Pukerua Bay RSA (map). Bring a plate for the barbecue; live music from 1pm from the Axolotls and an open mic with special guests. Bring your memorabilia to show and talk about. Pukerua Bay tree blitz this week

There will be four to five nights of works commencing this week along Pukerua Bay State Highway 1 to attend to the roadside vegetation and trees. Works will start on Sunday night (31 January 2021) and expect to run through to Thursday night, weather allowing. All work will be done at night, progressing north to south, starting on Sunday night down by the 50 km sign at the bottom of the hill.

  • Wellington Electricity will be clearing trees from power lines,
  • Fulton Hogan will be cutting back roadside and footpath vegetation, and
  • Treescape will be removing some of the trees.
